Description:
Previously recorded webinar for the Society for Sex Therapy & Research (SSTAR)
3 AASECT CEs. ST Core Knowledge Areas: Intimacy skills. SC core: E; ST Training: Theory and Methods of sex related psychotherapy. SC Training: B, C
This presentation will examine each of the common problems detailing when they are most likely to surface, and how to manage each of them with the use of supportive therapy, explanations of the concepts underlying each of the difficulties, modifications of the Sensate Focus suggestions and the use of creative techniques such as the use of paradoxical injunctions. Distinction is made between the anticipated encountering of one or several of these problems during the usual course of Sensate Focus, particularly at the beginning of sex therapy, and the persistence of these concerns beyond the initial sets of instructions.
This course offers the opportunity to:
- Identify the common problems that arise during the use of Sensate Focus
- Apply techniques for managing these common problems and increasing motivation.
- Distinguish between common problems responsive to intervention in the usual course of Sensate Focus, and persistent problems suggesting the need for additional or alternative therapeutic approaches.
