Introduction To Linda Weiner, MSW, LCSW
She/Her/Hers
My journey as a Sexolologist began with my training at the Masters & Johnson Institute with the pioneers who studied human sexual response in the laboratory and based on their findings, developed modern sex therapy.
Over the past thirty five years I have trained and supervised medical and mental health practitioners wanting to improve their skills in treating sexuality concerns. I became an AASECT Certified Sex Therapy Supervisor and CE provider in order to help grow the field and fill the need for quality services for those seeking information and/or certification as a sexuality counselor or sex therapist.
Reaching beyond mental health and somatic practitioners to include physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and allied health professionals has been a dream of mine. These are often the first professionals consulted when patients experience sexual distress and, too often, they have not had the opportunity to develop comfort and expertise in addressing sexuality during their formal training .
Sensate Focus Touch embodies two main beliefs:
Both mental health and medically trained professionals are needed to address the common human concerns about this integral part of the human experience.
I believe in the value of collaboration between medical and mental health professionals in the assessment and treatment of sexual dysfunctions. I also believe in the interdisciplinary approach and the value of collaboration in the biopsychosocial model which points to the importance of understanding the potential contribution of biological, psychological and social factors in the creation and maintenance of sexual problems. We are better together!
